WINDSURFING SCHOOL of MAUI
Olaf Mitchell / Lead Windsurfing Instructor
A little info on Olaf:
I moved to Eldorado Canyon, Colorado back in 1971 and that is where developed my passion for rock climbing. As a young man, climbing allowed me to stay focused as an athlete and experience amazing places, with amazing people!
In the mid 90's though my focus started shifting to surfing, wind surfing, and wave sailing and I spent most of my time traveling to the best places that I could find to do these sports like Florida, South Texas, the Gorge, Mainland Mexico, Baja Mexico, and the Oregon Coast.
At the turn of the century I moved to Maui to pursue my passion for ocean sports (with the best conditions imaginable) Everyday!
After all these years and my passion for surfing and windsurfing keeps growing. I really get a charge out of spreading my stoke and helping enthusiastic people as they discover this dynamic sport!
Olaf is a gifted teacher, with tons of enthusiasm and patience! We are proud to have Olaf as our lead instructor! Very easy to follow directions and a patient teaching style makes Olaf one of the top instructors in the world.

Review - recommendation of Libor Barta from Prague, Czech Republic:
I found Windsurfing School of Maui at internet while preparing schedule of our stay at Maui. I used to windsurf alot six years ago and now was looking forward to our family vacation at Maui also because I hoped to bring me back into my windsurfing years.
What luck. Karen, the founder of school responded immediately and offered generous plan .There was also no problem to agree that we will be arranging flexible schedule of lessons depending on the wind forecast - which was appreciated by my family very much. And so it all happened. After our arrival to Kanaha beach area Karen met us and introduced instructor Olaf and since then he took full care of me.
Well many people may can give lessons but not of that quality as Olaf. I was amazed by his flexibility and positive mindset. He was so much caring about the way how I feel during and after lessons. Nothing was a problem. I felt wind is strong, Olaf suggested to practice water starts.
If wind was ok, we were sailing, Olaf right behind me and providing me feedback at the beach. I felt tired ,Olaf was resting with me while talking about his windsurfing friends and experience. Well after 12 year at Maui Olaf knows everyone who means anything in this sport. After resting back into water.
So I learned alot. But what I learned on the top was how fantastic is if one like me has good partner at the water like Olaf was all the time. Three weeks ran away fast and I have no doubts that if there will be chance to come back to MauiI will go right back to Olaf and Karen to set the schedule of my lessons.
They are the best at the island (I think). I hope to see Olaf and Karen in summer of 2012.. Mahalo, Libor
Karine L: Olaf was super friendly, great experience!

Hi, my name is David; I'm 27 years old from Portland Oregon. I graduated from Oregon State University in 2007 with a science degree which I hope to use someday.
I got into windsurfing when I moved to Hood River about 4 years ago, I was hooked immediately! I wanted to spread the sailing "bug" to all of my friends, so I taught them how to sail; soon I started working for a windsurfing school in Hood River.
I enjoyed teaching others so much that I wanted to teach year around, so I moved to Maui, the windsurfing capital!
My windsurfing style is more focused towards Slalom racing, going so fast that my board is just skipping across the top of the water, and my sail full of power is what keeps me hooked to this sport.
I played other sports in high school, Football, Basketball, Wrestling and Track, I've always been athletic.
I also like road biking, hiking, snowboarding, and surfing. I love to meet new people, make new friends, and most of all just laugh, enjoy life and have fun!
David is new to our school but he has made quite an impression on us. With his patient and enthusiastic style you will be up and riding in no time!
